At the end of the night, guests were treated to a special appearance by Ravenbane’s Firecraft:
It was an AWESOME opening reception!

What a difference a little bit of color can make! And of course a little bit of polish doesn’t hurt either . . .
We started the job on Valentine's Day and so this was our wall sample. We chose a non-toxic venetian plaster in orange, or salmon, one of our favorite colors. Orange also just happens to sit in the NW corner of my feng shui color chart (I am limited here to black, white, yellow or orange) and the bedroom faces NW, in the NW corner of the house. Salmon is a great feng shui color for bedrooms.
First coat of venetian plaster is finished. Two more coats to go . . .
Johnny applying the second coat of venetian plaster.
Here is what it looks like after the third coat and some burnishing. We also painted the trim a pale olive green.
Venetian plaster is one of my favorite finishes. Just gorgeous!
Don't you think?
We'll be returning to decorate the room next month and will take some more photos then.
Here's a cool shot I took along the side of the wall that shows how the finish looks like glass!

The Nature Nourishes Exhibit, a group exhibition curated by Lori Robeau and Karen Talbot has taken root at ArtSpace Hartford, 555 Ayslum Street, with 22 artists from across the nation. This show runs until August 26th, gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 3-8, and Saturday and Sunday, 12-4. Free and open to the public.
Here are some pictures I took of artist and herbalist Karen Talbot’s work during her Artist Talk and Weed Walk yesterday. I just LOVE Karen’s style . . .
Weeds as Food and Medicine. Entrees at the table include Evening Primrose, Jewelweed, Stinging Nettles, Wood Sorrel, Violet, Mugwort, Queen Anne's Lace (aka Wild Carrot) and Plantain. The centerpiece is Dandelion.
Grass and crystal chandelier.
Beautiful display of wild weeds in oils and as tinctures.
Karen Talbot reveals some of her secrets for getting wild in the kitchen.
Karen's homemade Stinging Nettles iced tea helps restore the adrenals, stabilizes blood sugar, and lessens allergic and menopausal problems. Just what i need!
Karen's homemade Sumac iced tea, so delicious!
